KNOWN

“With all wisdom and understanding He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,” Ephesians 1:8-9 NIVUK

Do you remember when you were a child and your parents shared with you the secret kind of things that only parents would talk about? Maybe it’s just me. But I loved it when I felt like I was being told “adult” things. I felt powerful. I felt important. I felt like I was part of the family. As a parent, I now know that what I was told was not as mature as I thought it was. But nonetheless, part of my development in my teenage years and in my young adult years were because i was being told mature information. When Paul writes that God has made known to us the mystery of His will, he is telling us that God has brought us into the mature conversation stage. We are no longer servants. We are friends (John 15:15). So what we learn from Paul is that God relates to us as intimate friends and He trusts us with the knowledge of His will. His will can be known. It’s not always easy to understand, but it can be known. So walk forward in confidence and friendship with God, and trust Him to lead you into the will that He has purposed for you in Christ.

CONSIDER

  1. When you were told important information by your parents, a friend, a teacher or a boss, how did it make you feel?

  2. What area of your life needs to be elevated from “servant” to “friend” because God makes known to you the mysteries of His will?

  3. Because you are “in the know”, how can you add value and benefit to another?
